 Speed Issues
  Last update: 2011-10-08 20:07

Speed issues do happen for some, but in most cases there is a simple reason and an easy fix. Here are a few tips that may help you bring your service back to normal should you ever have speed issues:

  • First run a speedtest if you haven't run one already. Some speed issues have more to do with the computer itself being slow and not the connection. We reccommend for reliable results. Just select their test server in Dallas, TX and make sure the results are consistent with the level of service you're paying for.
  • Sometimes speed issues can suddenly spring up on wifi, but not on any devices that are wired to the internet connection. If this seems to be the case, it could be the result of weak signal or wireless interferrence. Make sure you haven't purchased any new devices that could be interferring with it. These can be wireless home theater speakers, baby monitors, older cordless phones, and more. Another thing to check is the signal strength and see if getting closer to the wifi helps.
  • Heavy downloads for large files, streaming movies and file sharing are notorious reasons for customer slowdowns. Make sure no other computers are using all of your bandwidth by downloading/uploading at the time that you're having trouble. Remember that some computers may have software on them that handles downloads and uploads automatically, even if someone isn't using them.
  • Sometimes the router just needs a good old reboot. You can do this by locating the power for your router (generally the smallest black wire plugged into the back), unplugging the power, waiting 10 seconds and finally plugging it back in. The lights should all come back on and after a short wait, the router should be online again.
